The Stur Half, organised by the Dorset Doddlers, has been running since 1990. The route follows rural roads in and around Sturminster Newton
The race is sponsored by Honeybuns Bakery and supported by other local businesses, and this year is part of the Dorset Road Race League.
There is also a multi-terrain 5k race, which you can enter on the day, and while you are running we will entertain the children with races on the school field.
Whether you are a returning runner or new to the Stur Half, we look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 6th August 2023.
Well, we were going to be 30 in 2020, but we all know what happened that year, and then in 2021 the race was cancelled due to the unexpected road closure by the Water Board!
This year, 2022 we are going ahead with the race so the Stur Half, organised by the Dorset Doddlers will take place on Sunday, 7th August, and we are pleased to say that the race is a Dorset Half Marathon Championship Race

The main race car park… The main car park will be at Sturminster Newton High School (DT10 1DT), marshals will direct you to the car parking. For safety please follow their directions.
The routes… will be marshalled by volunteers from the Blackmore Vale Lions Club, the Doddlers and friends, and residents around the course.
This is a road race… The marshals will warn traffic, but we have no right of way over cars, tractors etc – so please take care and follow instructions from the marshals. Unless otherwise directed, run on the LEFT HAND SIDE of all the main roads.
Time limit and restrictions… The Stur Half has a time limit of 3 hours and the course is quite narrow in some points so it is not suitable for wheelchair athletes or runners with pushchairs for safety reasons.
Due to Dorset Road Race Rules dogs are not permitted to run in this race.
Be prepared and check the forecast… the day is normally a very hot one, so consider wearing loose clothing and a hat to keep you cool. Another tip is to keep moving after you finish the race and have a drink and something to eat soon afterwards. That does not mean going straight to the Beer tent!
Don’t forget you must be 17 and over to run the half marathon and over 13 for the 5K.
Race Admin and the finish of both races will be at Sturminster Newton High School on Bath Road (DT10 1DT).
The main race car park is also at the school, with access from Honeymead Lane. When this is full we will direct you to either the SturFit Leisure Centre or to other local car parks.
Race numbers will need to be collected on the day so please allow time to do this.
Showers are available at SturFit Leisure Centre, up to 2pm, last admission is 1.45pm
The Presentation will be held on the school field, near the finish, at approximately 1pm.
